About us

The Radiological Artificial Intelligence Test center (RAIT) combines the experience of the Innovation unit at the radiology department at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital with the radiological Research group at Frederiksberg and Bispebjerg Hospital. With the unique combination of skills and data across the hospitals, RAIT aspires to establish a collective knowledge and competence center for developing, validating, and implementing AI applications in medical radiological imaging in the Capital Region of Denmark. With the joint forces, we seek to move barriers, standardize processes, and generate excellent best practices for validating and implementing AI in Radiology to generate equal health for all.

RAIT consists of several AI-projects and a joint project office across Bispebjerg and Herlev Hospital. We ensure that good practice is shared and obstacles common to AI projects are identified and handled, fostering the future way for AI projects. Furthermore, we work in close collaboration with our partners, clinicians, national and international companies, universities, ministries etc. and support a non-competitive environment.

Strategic focus areas

We have identified five equally essential focus areas that ensure successful AI implementation in the health care sector. These focus areas also contribute to forming the foundation- and the approach to how we work at RAIT.

  • AI validation and implementation

In RAIT, we believe that less complexity will ease the adaption of AI in health care. Therefore, we are aiming for a smoother, transparent, and more efficient processes when developing, validating and applying sustainable AI in radiology.

  • Innovative partnerships

The lack of AI competencies among clinicians also in radiology, poses a significant barrier to taking full advantage of the digital transformation and use of AI at hospitals. There is an urgent need of maturing the organization and for the clinicians to understand the impact of AI and to be able to critically questioning supplier’s products.

  • Sustainable AI

We see sustainable AI as utilized AI which is robust, quality- assured and trustworthy. Sustainable AI is a stepping stone to a sustainable radiological field, contributing to the best possible conditions for the radiologist, radiographer and patient both now and in the future.

  • IT-infrastructure

Today there is no data science research infrastructure for AI in medical imaging in Denmark, which makes accessing, structuring, sharing and storing a large amount of data difficult. We aspire to find an IT infrastructure solution to support the transformation to a data-driven culture within radiology in close collaboration with partners.

  • Competence Development

The lack of AI competencies among clinicians also in radiology, poses a significant barrier to taking full advantage of the digital transformation and use of AI at hospitals. There is an urgent need of maturing the organization and for the clinicians to understand the impact of AI and to be able to critically questioning supplier’s products.

Our values

Human-centred focus
We have a human-centred approach, whether it’s the patients, users of AI or our employees.  We continuously aspire to develop high-quality AI-product valuable for the patients.

Innovative, curious, and agile
We challenge, and we dare. We look for new innovative opportunities and creative, brave minds.

RAIT is partly funded through the Danish National Investment Fund. The investment fund supports several projects using artificial intelligence in the public sector, and currently, RAIT has been allocated grants for two Signature Projects through the Danish finance agreements for 2021.
